I’m not sure whether the head-rush was caused by the Red Arrows at Airbourne (which started here yesterday on Eastbourne sea front) or news that we’ve been short-listed for Tourism South East’s Bed & Breakfast/Guest Accommodation of the Year 2010 award.
We’ve an assessor coming to have a look around so the kayak might have to [...]

If you need further encouragement to head south and hit the downs, which finish, rather conveniently for the Guesthouse East, just down the road at Beachy Head and Eastbourne – The Sunday Times travel section had a centre spread this weekend highlighting that Britain’s newest national park has majestic monuments, stirring scenery and terriffic pubs [...]

The last time I saw this classy outfit was in Cusco, Peru back in 2005 and the only similarity with Eastbourne I can muster is the barely-positive temperature outside.
A pre-Christmas cracker indeed – as the St Petersburg ballet perform a collection of classics on consecutive evenings from Tuesday 15th December, including Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Nutcracker and a [...]

Given the amount of mouthfuls I swallow on every swim it’s just as well – the sea on Eastbourne’s main beachfront has been upgraded from ‘Good’ in 2008 to ‘Excellent’ this year. It’s taken 60 years since it was first earmarked for protection, but the South Downs, stretching from Beachy Head near Eastbourne (just a mile or so along the beach from The Guesthouse East) to the edge of Winchester in Hampshire, has finally been given national park status becoming England’s 9th.
South Downs becomes a national park

Nostalgic, fervent and gripping and refined – no, I’m not referring to The Guesthouse East – The LPO return to Eastbourne with Brahms’ fourth symphony, arguably the composer’s finest achievement.
The performance at the Congress theatre, just a few minutes walk from Eastbourne’s award-winning accommodation, starts at 3pm on Sunday November 1st. Tickets from £12.

Eastbourne B&B provides the perfect backdrop for filming
All sorts of action this weekend as Brighton Rock filming came to life in Eastbourne, with Hartington Place, the home of The Guesthouse East, providing the perfect back-drop for the all-star cast.
Thankfully we played host to our friend Tim Fox Evans, a professional photographer, for the last few [...]

Blimey, the shooting for Brighton Rock has started in Eastbourne – to a cloudless, picture postcard back-drop (hoorah for Eastbourne’s micro-climate, I say!).
The Stanger clan took a break from B&B life with a stroll to take a quick look (and keep a furtive eye out for the all-star cast – Helen Mirren where are you??) but we [...]
